My whole world changed on March 31, 2014 when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic bladder cancer. I didn't even know how to process the information. My first instinct was to research and I soon became confident that DFCI was the best option for my dad in his fight to beat cancer. From the first moment I walked into Dana Farber I felt this sense of HOPE and never let that feeling go.
My dad was the strongest, hardworking, and loving person I have ever known. He always put his family first. He taught me so much about life. He loved his passion for masonry and gardening. Participating in the Jimmy Fund Walk is my way of keeping my dad's memory and fight alive while supporting this amazing institute to continue to bring hope to others.
Team Triple A Founder & Captain
We came up with our team name because my dad would call himself triple A because those were his initials. (Antonio Afonso Andrade). A team that started in memory of one, has now grown to honor the lives of many who have been touched by cancer.
Team Triple A was 23 walkers strong in 2017, 27 walkers in 2018, and we hope to double in size for the 31st Anniversary of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk this year on September 22, 2019.
The 2019 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk registration page will be available soon!
